Shades of Gray for your Wedding Day

Filed in Wedding Colors 12 comments

For the past few years, chocolate brown has been the “It Color” popping up in weddings as a hip neutral, and combined with bright pink or bright yellow. We have enjoyed the chocolate brown, but it will be nice to see a new fresher color give chocolate some competition.

While chocolate brown isn’t going anywhere, a hip new color for 2009 is gray. You may think of gray as too dreary a color for weddings, but on the contrary, it can serve as a sophisticated foil to brighter colors. It’s great paired with pink or yellow, but perhaps the hottest combination this year will be silver and royal purple. Imagine your groom in a charcoal gray suit with a bright blue tie.

If you are using gray or silver as your color combination, let us hear from you. Tell us what your wedding colors will be.

I will be using silver dresses for my wedding in September. Everyone else has used brown and I was determined to be different. Plus I’m not much of a fall colored kind of girl. Here is the girls’ dresses, http://watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoo&showid=901 but in the charcoal.

I am a bit skeptical about grey as a color on a wedding. But while looking at the girls on the photo above: these girls are very “sweet” and it seems that color isn’t everything on a dress.

I’m using gray as one of my color themes – tossed up between gray and yellow (kind of a bright pale yellow rather than a full on bright yellow or a baby pale one..if that makes any sense!) and gray and turquoise for a few months – am going with the gray and turquoise. My bridesmaids will be in charcoal and may have turquoise shoes (maybe) Gray will be the dominant color with hints of turquoise.

I am using gray and light yellow as my colors! I was so excited when I found this combo because I thought they paired great together. I’m still deciding whether my girls should wear yellow or pewter dresses. Jcrew has a lot of options in both that I love. Thanks for posting this…it got me even more excited about my choice!

A soft pink and silver would be pretty combination. Great for spring or summer.

Hi, Jenn. Fuchsia would look stunning – great for floral accents, jewelry, handbags or other accessories! Gray works as a great foundational color for just about any other color. Just remember that with bold colors, you don’t need to use them as much. Moderation. The punch of bold color on a monochromatic palette of gray will wow your friends, family, and guests. Not to mention looking fabulous in your wedding photos. And remember, don’t forget to Contact us if you want to submit your Real Wedding Story for a chance to be featured on Dallas Wedding Planner.
