My Picks in the Martha Stewart DIY Wedding Contest

Filed in DIY Projects & Downloads 3 comments

Martha Stewart is currently asking for people to share their photos of handmade wedding day details. The contest ends on September 1, 2009 so there is still time for tons of entries.  When I reviewed the photos, they already  had 1, 322 photo submissions for the contest.  Martha is going to showcase their favorites on the website. It will be interesting to see who her selections are because I think her and her staff would be quite picky.

Dallas Wedding Planner has selected our favorite picks (as of today) to share with our readers.  Out of those 1,322 submissions, most of them we didn’t care for but there were some DIY projects that were sharp looking. Here’s our favorites:

This is a wedding card box to put your cards in on your wedding day.  I have  seen a bunch of ideas over the years, most of them boring and ugly.  We thought this was a nice sophisticated way to collect your cards. Their description of the item:

I created this wedding card box for my own wedding. I wasn’t going to settle for the typical “mailbox” style card holder and wanted to put my own spin on the idea. The lid to the bottom box comes off so you can retrieve the cards after the celebration.

The boxes are wrapped with chocolate, ivory and rust colored papers and accented with coordinating ribbon and flowers. To view my other wedding items, visit my etsy shop at www.ruffhouseart.etsy.com

Here’s a wedding bouquet made out of felt and vintage buttons. It definitely accents a bride looking to pull off a vintage style look for her wedding day.

This is a picture of me on my wedding day with my bridal bouquet that I created. My husband and I wanted each detail of our wedding to reflect our creative personalities, handmade elements, and our story. Each flower in this bouquet is made out of felt and was hand stitched by me while watching many many hours of Pride and Prejudice!

Our wedding included many vintage details and this bridal bouquet was no exception. I hand selected each of the vintage buttons (many rhinestone and pearl) from antique stores, eBay, and my mother’s button collection. The white flower in the front showcases four clustered buttons that used to reside on a garment belonging to my great-grandmother.

My bridal bouquet now sits in a lovely glass apothecary jar in the living room of our home – a captured daily reminder of the beauty of our wedding day.

Here are some cute shoes for a flower girl.  Finding a way to incorporate more color in the wedding even in the smallest areas in always a plus and helps give that needed pop in your wedding photos.

Here’s their description of their item:

These sweet little shoes are summer-y, eco-friendly, and stylish all in one. They are made from an organic cotton print, lined with eco-friendly felt and feature a fun peep toe and hand-cut pink flower. These shoes are designed for a walking toddler with cork padding and nonslip, waterproof tan rubber soles.

Here’s a cute favor for your wedding guests, especially for a fall or winter wedding. Here’s their description of their DIY item:

Who doesn’t love the gooey, old-fashioned goodness of s’mores?! These goodie bags are a simple, inexpensive, totally DIY guest favor that’s perfect for getting guests gathered around the fire for an outdoor “country chic” wedding reception. Place the s’mores bags in a basket near the fireplace or arrange the bags as part of the table decor. Guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

The last item that we selected as one of our picks in the Martha Stewart DIY Wedding Contest is cupcake toppers.  If you are going to do cupcake, then by all means decorate them and spice it up with cupcake toppers. The ideas that you could put on the design are endless.

Here’s their description:

Let them eat cupcakes! Perfect for a more casual, outdoorsy “country chic” wedding, these little cuties add some serious personality to the dessert table. Sayings include “Gettin’ Hitched”, “Lucky in Love” and “Bicycle Built for Two.”
